The Jenkins HOPE (Housing, Opportunity, Progression, and Empowerment), Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating disparities, fostering inclusivity, and empowering communities through education, advocacy, and economic opportunities. We work to address systemic challenges, promote fair housing practices, and break down barriers in real estate development and beyond. Through training, community engagement, and policy advocacy, we raise awareness of bias, cultural humility, and the structural challenges that create inequities. Our goal is to bridge opportunity gaps, ensuring that homeownership, financial literacy, and economic mobility are accessible to all.
A future where everyone—regardless of their background—has equal access to safe, fair, inclusive and thriving communities. We envision a society where challenges are actively addressed, systemic barriers are removed, and economic opportunities in housing and development are accessible for all.

The Reality of Housing Inequality:
1. 58% of Black homebuyers report experiencing racial bias when purchasing a home.
• While this specific percentage may not be widely cited, studies have shown that Black and Hispanic applicants experience higher mortgage denial rates than white and Asian applicants. Mortgage applications were denied at 26% for Black applicants and 22% for Hispanic applicants, compared to 16% for white and 15% for Asian applicants.

2. Black-owned homes are appraised 20% lower than identical white-owned homes in the same neighborhoods.
• Research indicates that homes in Black neighborhoods are valued 21% to 23% lower than comparable homes in predominantly white neighborhoods. Appraisal bias accounts for 9% to 19% of this devaluation, depending on methodology.

3. False 911 calls on Black homeowners in predominantly white communities have resulted in wrongful arrests and deadly encounters.
• Studies highlight how weaponized 911 calls have disproportionately targeted Black individuals, leading to harmful interactions with law enforcement, wrongful arrests, and, in some cases, deadly encounters.
